Weather Closures
School closures because of inclement weather (snow, etc.) or other emergencies will be the same as the South Kitsap School District. Please visit the following TV stations/websites (or listen to their radio stations, if you are without power):
- KOMO (AM 1000 and TV 4)
- KING (AM 1090 and TV 5)
- KIRO (AM 710 and TV 7)
Reports usually air between 5:30 AM and 8:00 AM. Please be patient in listening. It often takes time for us to get through to them, and sometimes decisions cannot be made until conditions can be checked at daylight. In addition, a ‘late opening’ may change to a full closure if conditions deteriorate, so keep listening if the weather seems to be worsening.
Our goal is to quickly inform all our students. For this reason, we also ask parents’ cooperation in calling other school families using our ‘emergency phone tree’ (distributed at fall parent-teacher conferences). It will be activated whenever inclement weather or other emergency forces us to make a school schedule change. General guidelines:
Delayed start (one or two hours) = NO AM Preschool (AM Kindergarten optional).
Early dismissal = NO Extended Care. Teachers and staff members will call all parents to pick up their students, and will not leave until all students have safely departed (please provide contact information for a relative, neighbor or friend who can pick them up if we cannot reach you).
If you haven’t seen/heard anything by 8:00 AM on a questionable day, call the school (if there is no answer, call one of the teachers at home).
Please do not drop off your child here without verifying teachers/staff are on-site and school will be in session.
If conditions in your area are unsafe, whether we have school or not, don’t endanger yourselves trying to get your students in. Just call and let us know you will be staying home.
